Sugar-coma Monologue

I interrupt the regularly scheduled blog silence to point out that if Santa had snuck into our kitchen last night, he likely would have found himself on one heckuva sugar high, what with all the caramel candies, strawberry mousse, pumpkin muffins, orange-cranberry muffins and gingersnaps I impulsively baked from scratch yesterday. Well, maybe not.

Things I Learn From My Hairstylist

So, during conversation with my hairstylist (and later verified by the Internets) I come to learn just how many calories are in a Mai Tai or a Rum and Coke. And several other cocktails I enjoy from time to time.

On Ignoring Things

Now, I could spend most of this entry rattling on about whatever excuse I've got this time for not paying any attention to this blog, but I'd much rather take my cue from Corporate America and make my piss poor performance the new standard of excellence.I'm sure you've noticed the new masthead commemorating this indoctrination. But I can't let that alone herald in a new era of half-assed attempts at keeping this site current.

Easter Weekend "Fun"

Where most folks were spending time enjoying copious amounts of chocolate and prowling various venues around the city for brightly colored hard-boiled eggs, I found myself having a much less traditional weekend.Friday night, during our first viewing of the latest Bond movie Casino Royale (awesome flick, by the way), I received a phone call from my sister that my mom was transported via ambulance to the hospital with some severe flu-like symptoms. After hanging up with her, I packed my bags with plans to drive down to Vancouver, WA to help oversee my mom's care.

Windblown

Local bloggers have posted lots about the windstorm that came through our area on Thursday night, and I'm a bit behind on that front as our ISP was down from Friday until earlier this evening. After enduring almost three full days without my precious Internets, I'm really surprised I'm not in a straight jacket right now.

We have a red and gold theme this year, which by total coincidence, just happens to compliment the color scheme of our living room nicely. In fact, it works so well, I'm going to have a hard time taking it down after the holidays.

Lu Barfeth

Well, it's officially Christmas season now that I've cleaned up my first batch of pine needle barf from little miss Lulu. I figure I'll keep an on-going tally of such "presents" over the course of the holiday season, just so I don't have to enjoy the combination of pine trees and cats all by myself.

Better, But Not Invincible

A few weeks ago, I started to reach a point where I could no longer avoid ignoring the fact that I constantly felt depleted, fatigued and generally unhealthy. Since then, I've made some significant progress toward feeling more normal, thanks to finding a great naturopathic doctor.

The Rainy Season Begins

It seems as if it is once again that time of year when we're likely to see the our forecasts in the format of [rain, showers, drizzle] possibly followed by [rain, showers, drizzle] and maybe some reference to wind thrown in there somewhere. To test whether or not we really have crossed that line into the dreaded "rainy season", I took a look at my weather forecast, and noticed the next few days shaping up like this:"Light Rain""Breezy with Rain""Occassional rain and drizzle""Rain""Wind with Heavy Rain"And so my assumptions have been confirmed.

I've been under the weather earlier this week, to the point where I couldn't get out of bed or stare at a computer screen. Apparently, I've been missed at work, as my team (all two of them) sent me flowers in a very nice gesture to see that I continue to feel better.

Whiff of the Holidays

Our neighbor is putting in a new garage, and the crew working on the foundation had to chop off an extra large root of a tree in order to accomodate that. Bummer too, because now the tree is apparently likely to die, so they're having to cut the whole thing down.

Not Dead Yet!

By this time of year, I was half expecting my gardening abilities to have put me in a place where I'd be making wild guesses as to which plants were alive and which plants were at death's door. And as much fun as it would be to send my plants into a parody of a Spamalot musical number, it seems that I don't have much of the lifeless variety around. This past week, we've been snapping photos of a few things that are blooming around our garden.

Anticipation

This morning I woke up at the wee hour of 2:45am to get ready and catch my flight down to LA. I normally love my trips down to my boss’s office, but today I’m in a nervous mood, simply because I know my day will be spent in meetings which may involve lengthy debates on an issue I’m quite passionate about.Like most anyone, I don’t prefer to leave a debate without getting my way on things of this nature.
