"I am the terror that flaps in the night!"
If you know who/what I'm referring to just by reading that title, you are totally teh awesome in my book!
Last
night, Kevin loaded an NES emulator and literally hundreds of classic
NES games on our XBox. I spent a decent amount of time going through
the list to figure out what games deserve my obsession, and came across
a few gems.
As a kid, one of my absolute favorite cartoon superheros happened to be
Darkwing Duck. Yes, I'm serious. And I remember reading the
Nintendo Power Magazine
back in the day about a totally awesome Darkwing Duck video game that
was coming out for the NES. Sadly, I only had a Sega Genesis and would
never get the chance to play it. Truly heart-breaking stuff there,
folks.
But my dream finally came true last night. There it was,
sitting in the middle of a list of hundreds of NES games just waiting
for me to find it. I was overjoyed. I even made up a happy dance to the
Darkwing Duck theme song that started after I fired up the game.
I
spent about an hour playing through it, and realized that it's actually
kinda hard. And seeing as I'm a bit obsessive about getting through
games, I probably wouldn't have passed the 6th grade had I started
playing it when it first came out. So, now it all makes more sense.
While it seemed totally unfair when I was twelve, it was good that I
didn't have a distraction that would pull me away from things like
getting through school and figuring out what to do with the rest of my
life. Now, it's much easier for me to handle such obsessions --as the
only thing I have to lose from it is my job and social life!
So, why do I get the gut feeling that Kevin's "obsessive behavior monitoring" just kicked itself up a notch?
Batman's got nothing on him!
