Note: My logic will only make sense to fellow geeks
Kevin's always been good for helping me find ways to celebrate my inner-child. In his latest endeavor in that arena, he's successfully helped me find the rationale to order a new DS Lite a month before they're scheduled to be available here in the United States. We've both been keeping up on reviews, which did a great job of shattering my doubts about it.
Kevin decided to call me Tuesday morning to see how I was doing. About half-way through the conversation, I asked him what he was up to.
"Oh, just walking around outside. Getting some fresh air"
"Just outside your office?"And there I saw him standing on the sidewalk, smiling at me and holding a brown package in his hand. I nearly shreiked. On my way out to meet him, I stopped by my friend Jeff's desk and said something to the effect of "OhmygodIthinkKevinpickedupmyDSLiteandhe'shererightnowtogiveittome!" to which he humored me with a supportive "That's cool!" response while I awkwardly tried to contain my enthusiastic desire to break into a full sprint running for the door.
And yes, I was correct. Kevin did have a DS Lite for me, which we opened together in front of Tully's. You would've thought he had just bought me a car or something. I was so ecstatic. I turned it on, and we played with it for a bit, trying to figure out how to get it out of it's Japanese language. I think I accidentally set up a Japanese nickname and screwed up a few standard settings before changing it to English, but nothing I wasn't able to fix, fortunately. I actually wanted to read the manual before messing with it, but quickly realized that would be kind of challenging, what with the manual naturally being entirely in Japanese. Oh well. Now at least I have an excuse for my "learn by mashing buttons" method.
Right before Kevin left to go back to work, he had one other surprise for me. He had gone out of his way to get me MarioKart DS as well. I couldn't believe it! I had a cool new toy AND a game to play on it! I couldn't stop grinning the rest of the afternoon.
See, only a geek knows how to make my day. Getting gaming toys a month before they're released in the US? Teh hawt. Flowers and candy? Teh lame.
