For the past couple of days, I've been held up at my house while trying to get over a bout of allergy/cold symptoms. It always leads to cabin fever, and this time, I remedied it by catching a bus downtown to work today even though I was still far from 100%.
On my way into the office, I made plans to meet up with Kevin at the first Broadway Farmer's Market of the season. It seemed a bit small in vendor turnout, compared with what I remembered last year, but still had a decent variety of things. Kevin and I found some shade to eat lunch and chat. With such great weather (not too hot or too cold), it was hard to resist the temptation to skip going to the office so I could just mosey about the market and then find somewhere to take an afternoon nap.
However, in to the office I went. The typical office ambience didn't help my symptoms, and I was counting the minutes until I could head out to meet up with Kevin after work. Around 5:30, we found ourselves sitting at Cascade Bagel & Deli by the Washington State History Museum for dinner. It was still nice enough that we enjoyed our meal outside at one of the tables in the shade of the building.
We eventually walked over to the Tacoma Art Museum (TAM) to take advantage of the free admission as part of the Third Thursday Art Walk. This is the last week of the Great American Thing exhibit, and I'm glad we caught it before it left. It's a fantastic exhibit built on five themes that surround the concept of what artistry has become in America. It was all fascinating, and being there made me miss the days when I used to work at TAM.
In the past, I always had some reason for not getting outdoors. And I really don't know what I gained from staying locked indoors when the weather was nice. So I'm testing the opposite theory this year: take advantage of every reasonable opportunity to get outside. We'll see how it works out. However, from the color of my skin today, I best be learning how to get efficient at applying sunscreen.
