For dinner tonight, Kevin and I had the chance to try Capers Downtown on its opening day. It was easy to be persuaded to check it out after reading a couple of reviews, Kevin's pictures, as well as the take out menu he snagged.
I was in the mood for some comfort food this evening, and tried their grilled cheese sandwich. It's made with 3 cheeses: parmasean, Tillamook cheddar and gruyere, which was a fantastic combo on my palette. The bread is sprinkled lightly with herbs, and grilled with garlic butter, making it crispy and flavorful (just how I like it). I also had a side garden salad with their homemade ranch that was nice and fresh. Overall, it's a meal I could order over and over again.
Kevin tried the pulled pork sandwich (which surprised me as he's normally not any fan of shredded meat). It's seasoned very nicely (I stole a bite to sample it) and topped with coleslaw. He ate it all very quickly, and mentioned he enjoyed the flavor more with every bite. He also had a side caesar, and I had the chance to snag a bite of that, as well. The garlic in it was a fantastic surprise for a garlic lover like myself, but after talking with the owner, she said they're going to probably tone down the garlic a bit. She mentioned they're using a new supplier for garlic, and it's a bit more fresh and potent than what they used previously at their other shop. I actually prefer the potency, but understand the logic in adjusting the flavor so as not to offend those of us that aren't garlic enthusiasts. Overall, both dishes we tried were superb (in my opinion) and I'm likely to order either of them again.
One more thing -- I snagged a frosted cookie and a cupcake to sample later on my way out the door. I've already tried some of the cookie, and, if I had the metabolism of an 8 year old, I'd likely be grabbing a few of these to munch on every day.
I'm really happy with this new addition to downtown, and am glad to have one more excuse to frequent that part of Pacific Avenue on a regular basis.
